About CAPS

And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. (2 Timothy 2:2)

The Cumberland Area Pulpit Supply (CAPS) is a contemporary extension of the original Bancroft Gospel Ministry Vision.  Bancroft Gospel Ministry (BGM) began as a mission to the mountain people.

CAPS was established in 2003 with the vision of ministering to the rural churches, via helping existing churches with supply preaching and training men for this ministry.  While much of our ministry involves assisting churches in rural areas, we are glad to train and send men to minister in other church and ministry contexts as well.

Serving the Local Church

CAPS regularly provides churches with supply preachers. Several of our graduates now pastor churches as well. We also have men available for interim pastorates to help churches in transition.

Training Men for Ministry

The pulpit ministry deserves the utmost in spiritual preparation, personal dedication, and practical training. Churches need faithful men who will train other faithful men both to maintain healthy teaching in existing churches and to establish new churches on sound Scriptural principles.

The foundational CAPS track includes classes in hermeneutics (Bible study methods) and homiletics (preaching).  We have also offered Old and New Testament Survey classes.  Additional courses in the future may focus on Biblical spiritual disciplines, Bible doctrines, and pastoral ministry.  We aim to train men to pay close attention to their lives and doctrine (2 Timothy 4:16).
